This road trip is the best road trip ever:

What top gear did wasn't a road trip, any road trip I ever went on, I wasn't switching cars every 20 minutes.

Every road trip you went on you didn't drive a Ferrari either. Just saying...

'twas the other way round, they had a lot of trouble getting their paperwork in order, so they ended having to make the crossing several times till their contact got everything in order for them.

I could conceivably go on a road trip with a Ferrari in my lifetime, likely a rented Ferrari, but still, a Ferrari, I can't get into a Aquarama, a Bugatti, a Model T, 350Z rally, a Bentley, etc etc. Ever in my lifetime, lol. But that's not even the point, it just did not feel like a roadtrip with so many cars being involved, to me a roadtrip is man and machine eating up the miles, testing your endurance, seeing the sights and testing the reliability of your machine.
But yes I am jealous as hell about what they got to do. Looked like a ton of fun! It just didn't get the sense of what a roadtrip is to me.

I'm not sure it would work with only two of them. If James had been there it would have been possible to have 1 car the whole way and be entertaining. They've done that a bunch of times though.
